§ 01 — What Ski Dubai is
The indoor ski slope — honestly described
Ski Dubai is an indoor ski resort inside Mall of the Emirates — a 22,500 square-metre refrigerated space maintaining -1°C year-round, with five ski runs, a chairlift, a freestyle zone, a snowboarding area, and a Snow Park with tobogganing, climbing walls and ice caves. Real snow is produced continuously by snow cannons. The longest run is 400 metres with an 85-metre vertical drop. There are penguins. It is, in the truest sense, unlike anything else on earth.
The surrealism is the point — stepping from a 44°C shopping mall into a functioning ski slope is genuinely disorienting and amusing. But beyond the novelty, Ski Dubai is a legitimate ski facility: the snow quality is well-managed, the instructors are qualified, the runs are genuinely varied from beginner to black diamond, and the equipment (skis, boots, poles, jacket, trousers, helmet — all included in the ticket) is maintained properly.
For visitors who ski, this is a different kind of fun than mountain skiing — the scale is smaller and the ambient experience is artificial — but the actual skiing is satisfying. For beginners wanting a first lesson in a controlled environment with professional instruction, it is arguably better than a mountain for a first-day experience. For families with children who have never seen snow, it is extraordinary.

What to know before you go
What to wear
Everything is provided — ski jacket, ski trousers, helmet, gloves, ski boots, skis or snowboard. All you need to bring are: warm socks (ideally ski socks — one pair minimum, the boots can be cold), a base layer (thermal top or long-sleeve) if you feel the cold, and clothes you're comfortable changing into and out of. Lockers are available.
How long to allow
A standard slopes session runs 2 hours. Experienced skiers can get 8–10 runs in this time. Beginners typically cover the green and blue runs repeatedly, which is about right. The Snow Park sessions are open-ended within the entry time. If you want to extend, additional time can be bought at the facility. Most visitors find 2 hours about right — the novelty is in the contrast with the outside world, and diminishing returns set in after the 90-minute mark for most people.
Getting there
Mall of the Emirates Metro station (Red Line) is directly connected to the mall. Ski Dubai is on the first floor, sign-posted throughout the mall. Taxis and Careem from Downtown take 20–25 minutes. Free parking in the mall structure.
Children
Minimum age for the slopes is 3 years. Children's ski equipment is available from very small sizes. The Snow Park is suitable from toddler age. Children's ski school lessons are popular and very well-run — the beginner run's gentle gradient makes it ideal for small children's first ski experience. This is genuinely one of the best family activities in Dubai year-round.
