Ski Dubai — Indoor Ski at Mall of the Emirates

-1°C while it's 44°C outside. Five runs, real snow, a chairlift, penguins, and a Snow Park. The most surreal experience in Dubai — and surprisingly brilliant.

The indoor ski slope — honestly described

Ski Dubai is an indoor ski resort inside Mall of the Emirates — a 22,500 square-metre refrigerated space maintaining -1°C year-round, with five ski runs, a chairlift, a freestyle zone, a snowboarding area, and a Snow Park with tobogganing, climbing walls and ice caves. Real snow is produced continuously by snow cannons. The longest run is 400 metres with an 85-metre vertical drop. There are penguins. It is, in the truest sense, unlike anything else on earth.

The surrealism is the point — stepping from a 44°C shopping mall into a functioning ski slope is genuinely disorienting and amusing. But beyond the novelty, Ski Dubai is a legitimate ski facility: the snow quality is well-managed, the instructors are qualified, the runs are genuinely varied from beginner to black diamond, and the equipment (skis, boots, poles, jacket, trousers, helmet — all included in the ticket) is maintained properly.

For visitors who ski, this is a different kind of fun than mountain skiing — the scale is smaller and the ambient experience is artificial — but the actual skiing is satisfying. For beginners wanting a first lesson in a controlled environment with professional instruction, it is arguably better than a mountain for a first-day experience. For families with children who have never seen snow, it is extraordinary.

Five runs across all levels

Run 1
Green · Beginner
The gentlest slope — excellent for first-timers or children having their first experience on skis. Gentle gradient, no queuing at the lift. Where most beginner lessons take place.
Run 2
Blue · Intermediate
A longer, more flowing intermediate run. Good for progressing skiers who've done a few days on mountain slopes. The majority of visiting skiers use this as their main run.
Run 3
Blue · Intermediate
A wider version of Run 2 — good for side-by-side skiing with children or friends at a comfortable pace. Less technical than the upper runs.
Run 4
Red · Advanced
The most challenging standard run — steeper, faster, with some variable snow surface. Experienced skiers find this the most satisfying of the five. The 85m vertical means it's over quickly but is genuinely fun.
Run 5 — The Chase
Black · Expert
Ski Dubai's black run — the steepest, with mogul sections. Short by mountain standards but legitimately challenging. Serious indoor skiing at its best within the space constraints.

Which ticket to buy

Snow Park
Tobogganing, snow cavern, zorbing, climbing wall, snowball area. No ski slopes. Best for young children who want the snow experience without skiing. All equipment provided.
Adults 195 AED · Kids 175 AED
Ski Dubai Slopes ⭐
All five ski runs, chairlift, ski equipment (skis, boots, poles, jacket, trousers, helmet, gloves — all included). Snow Park also included. The full experience. Best for anyone who wants to actually ski.
Adults 270 AED · Kids 240 AED
Ski School Lesson
Group or private lessons for beginners. 1-hour session with a qualified instructor. Equipment included. Ideal for first-timers — the beginner run is well-designed for learning and the instructors are patient and experienced.
From 255 AED (group) · 440 AED (private)
Penguin Encounter
A supervised visit to the penguin enclosure — meet the resident king and gentoo penguins up close, learn about them from the keeper, touch (briefly and gently). Extraordinary for children; surprisingly moving for adults.
Add-on: 245 AED · Or included in some packages
Booking tip: Buy tickets at skidxb.com rather than at the door — typically 15–20% cheaper online. During school holidays and weekends the slopes fill up; online booking guarantees your session slot. Combo packages (slopes + penguin encounter) are available and often better value than buying separately.

What to know before you go

What to wear

Everything is provided — ski jacket, ski trousers, helmet, gloves, ski boots, skis or snowboard. All you need to bring are: warm socks (ideally ski socks — one pair minimum, the boots can be cold), a base layer (thermal top or long-sleeve) if you feel the cold, and clothes you're comfortable changing into and out of. Lockers are available.

How long to allow

A standard slopes session runs 2 hours. Experienced skiers can get 8–10 runs in this time. Beginners typically cover the green and blue runs repeatedly, which is about right. The Snow Park sessions are open-ended within the entry time. If you want to extend, additional time can be bought at the facility. Most visitors find 2 hours about right — the novelty is in the contrast with the outside world, and diminishing returns set in after the 90-minute mark for most people.

Getting there

Mall of the Emirates Metro station (Red Line) is directly connected to the mall. Ski Dubai is on the first floor, sign-posted throughout the mall. Taxis and Careem from Downtown take 20–25 minutes. Free parking in the mall structure.

Children

Minimum age for the slopes is 3 years. Children's ski equipment is available from very small sizes. The Snow Park is suitable from toddler age. Children's ski school lessons are popular and very well-run — the beginner run's gentle gradient makes it ideal for small children's first ski experience. This is genuinely one of the best family activities in Dubai year-round.

The temperature contrast: Walking from the 44°C mall exterior into Ski Dubai's -1°C is genuinely shocking. Allow 10 minutes to acclimatise once inside before putting on your ski equipment. The contrast is part of what makes Ski Dubai uniquely Dubai — there is nowhere else on earth where this juxtaposition exists at this scale.
