§ 01 — What it is

The world's longest urban zipline

XLine Dubai Marina is a twin zipline running 1 kilometre across the Dubai Marina canal — launching from the roof of the Amwaj Tower at 170 metres, reaching speeds of up to 80km/h in a face-down Superman position, and landing on the roof of the Marina Mall. The entire crossing takes approximately 60–90 seconds. It is officially the world's longest urban zipline.

The setting is what makes it genuinely special. You're not crossing a forest canopy or a mountain valley — you're flying face-down above one of the most dramatic artificial skylines in the world. The Marina's towers are on both sides, the canal water is directly below you, and on a clear day the view stretches out to the Gulf. The combination of speed, altitude, and urban visual drama is like nothing else in Dubai.

It runs as twin lines — two people can fly simultaneously, side by side. A good option for couples or friends who want to share the experience in parallel rather than sequentially. Solo flyers simply take up one of the two lines.

§ 02 — The experience step by step

What actually happens

Arrival & check-in — Amwaj Tower (30–45 min)

Check in at the XLine office at street level near the Marina Walk. Complete your waiver, weight check (max 110kg, min 40kg), and health declaration. You'll be given a briefing and helped into your harness and helmet.

Roof ascent & gearing up (15 min)

Lift to the roof of Amwaj Tower at 170m. The views from the launch platform are extraordinary before you've even attached to the wire — Marina, Gulf, JBR skyline visible simultaneously. Safety checks completed on the roof. You'll be positioned face-down (Superman position) and clipped in.

The launch (60–90 seconds)

The platform drops away. You accelerate instantly — reaching 80km/h within the first few seconds. The Marina towers are at eye level on both sides; the canal water is directly below you; the landing platform at Marina Mall is visible ahead. The sensation is of genuinely flying. It ends faster than you expect.

Landing at Marina Mall (15 min)

A braking mechanism slows you over the final 200m. You land on the roof of Marina Mall — gently, feet-first. Staff help you unclip. Your GoPro footage (if booked) is ready within minutes at the desk downstairs.

Return to start

Marina Mall is a 5-minute walk around the canal from Amwaj Tower. XLine doesn't operate a shuttle — walk or take the Marina ferry boat (fun option, 5 AED) back along the canal to your starting point.

§ 03 — XLine vs Skydive — which adventure to choose

Comparing Dubai's two iconic aerial experiences

XLine Dubai Marina — 395 AED

Choose this if: you want the Marina skyline in face-down flight, a quick (2-hour total) experience, something you can do spontaneously on any day without weeks of planning, or you're not ready for the commitment of skydiving. The urban visual drama is the point — it's visceral in a way that's completely different from altitude. Better for groups (twin lines). Minimum age 12.

Skydive Dubai (Palm) — 1,999 AED

Choose this if: you want the full freefall experience and 60 seconds of terminal velocity, the Palm Jumeirah aerial view, and a genuinely life-marking experience. Requires a half-day minimum, costs 5× more, and requires booking weeks ahead. The more extreme and memorable of the two. Minimum age 18.

Both are extraordinary. Budget allowing — do both. They deliver completely different experiences: XLine is urban speed at eye-level; skydiving is altitude and silence after the freefall ends. If you can only choose one and you're 18+, the skydive is the more profound experience. If you're 12–17, XLine is one of the best things available.

§ 04 — Practical

Booking, restrictions & tips

Booking

Book via xdubai.com or at the XLine office at Amwaj Tower, Dubai Marina. Walk-ins are possible on quieter days but weekend afternoon slots fill up. Book online 24–48 hours ahead to guarantee your preferred time. Morning slots (9–11am) have the best light for GoPro footage.

Restrictions

Weight: 40kg minimum, 110kg maximum. Age: minimum 12 years. Health: not suitable for those with heart conditions, recent injuries, or who are pregnant. The face-down position can be uncomfortable for those with neck issues — check with your doctor if concerned.

The video package

A GoPro is mounted on your helmet during the flight. The video + photos package (around 200 AED additional) gives you a downloadable record of the crossing. Given the visual drama of the Marina flight, this is worth adding — the footage of the towers rushing past at face-level is remarkable.

Best time of day

Sunset slots (around 5:30–6pm depending on season) give extraordinary light over the Marina — golden hour at 170m above the water with the towers turning amber is the premium experience. Book these slots furthest ahead. Morning is clearest visibility; midday has harsh light. Sunset is the show.

Getting there

Amwaj Tower is on the Marina Walk — nearest Metro is DMCC station (Red Line), a 10-minute walk. Taxis drop off on Al Mamsha Road. The Marina Walk is well-signed from both Metro exits.
