An independent directory built to give travellers and residents honest, current, well-organised information about one of the world's most visited cities.

Dubai is one of the most written-about cities on earth — and somehow most of that writing is either glossy hotel PR, outdated guidebook entries, or SEO content farms recycling the same 10 things to do.

Totally Dubai exists to be the thing we wished existed when we first started researching the city. A practical directory with honest descriptions of what things are actually like, organised to answer the questions travellers repeatedly have to piece together from multiple sources.

We're not affiliated with the Dubai tourism board, any hotel group, or any tour operator, and no business pays to appear in or rank higher within our listings. Our recommendations reflect our own research and judgement. See our privacy policy for details on how we handle data.

Our editorial principles

No paid placement
Hotels, restaurants and tour operators cannot pay to appear, rank higher or receive positive descriptions. Position in any list reflects our genuine assessment, nothing else.

Honest about the downsides
Every destination has trade-offs. Dubai's summer heat is brutal. Some areas require taxis constantly. Certain attractions are overhyped. We say so. Credibility comes from honesty, not cheerleading.

Kept current
Visa rules change. Hotels open and close. New districts emerge. When time-sensitive information changes, we review the relevant guides and show a last-updated date where that context matters.

Depth over breadth
Each department is organised around a clear traveller need — hotels, activities, districts, culture and practical planning — with depth and useful judgement preferred over quick summaries.

Respectful of culture
Dubai is an Emirati city first. We write about it as guests who've taken the time to understand local culture, not as visitors treating it purely as a stage set for Instagram.

Detailed pages are cross-linked so you can move from a broad hub to the practical guide for a specific attraction, neighbourhood or question.

Information that can materially affect a trip — such as visa rules, transport changes, opening status and official procedures — is reviewed against first-party or government sources wherever practical. Editorial pages also explain trade-offs: who something suits, what it costs in time or convenience, and when a popular option is not the best fit.

No. We have no affiliation with Dubai Tourism, Visit Dubai, the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism, or any UAE government entity. We are an independent commercial website.

No. Listings in our directories — hotels, restaurants and activities — are based on editorial assessment. Businesses cannot pay to appear or rank higher in the guide.
How current is the information?
We date all content and aim to review time-sensitive pages (visa rules, prices, opening hours) at least quarterly. Dubai changes fast — if you spot something out of date, please let us know via the contact form and we'll update it promptly.
