Burj Khalifa — At the Top

The world's tallest building at 828m. A complete guide to tickets, floors, best times, and getting the most out of a visit.

Everything you need to know

The Burj Khalifa opened in January 2010 and remains, as of 2026, the world's tallest building at 828 metres. It has 163 floors, 57 lifts, and a spire that is visible from 95km away on a clear day. The observation experience — branded At the Top — is one of the most visited paid attractions on earth.

There are three levels of ticket: Level 124/125 (the standard At the Top), Level 148 (At the Top SKY — the highest outdoor terrace in the world), and At the Top SKY Lounge which includes a hosted experience. Each delivers a different experience at a significantly different price. Most visitors book Level 124/125 and are not disappointed.

The single biggest factor in your visit is timing. Arrive mid-afternoon and you get a city baking in haze. Arrive for the 30-minute slot before sunset and you get golden light, the transition to dusk, and the city lights coming on — one of the most dramatic urban views on earth. Book this slot. It sells out 2–3 weeks ahead in peak season.

Sunset times by month

Dubai's sunset shifts considerably through the year. In December–January it's around 5:45pm; in June–July it's around 7:30pm. Always check the specific sunset time for your date on burjkhalifa.ae and book the slot immediately before it. The site shows sunset times per date in the booking flow.

How long to allow

From the entrance at Dubai Mall: allow 2–2.5 hours total — 20 minutes queuing and lift (the lift to level 124 takes 60 seconds and is an experience itself), 45–60 minutes on the decks, then back down and through the inevitable gift shop gauntlet. Don't rush the deck — the view changes dramatically over 45 minutes as the light moves.

Getting there & what to expect

Getting there

The Burj Khalifa entrance is inside Dubai Mall — follow signs to "At the Top" from the Lower Ground level near the Fountain. The nearest Metro station is Burj Khalifa / Dubai Mall on the Red Line, connected via a 10-minute air-conditioned walkway. Taxi drop-off at Gate 1 or 3 of Dubai Mall.

What to bring

Your phone is enough for photography — the glass is treated to minimise reflections and the light at sunset is extraordinary. If you shoot with a camera, a wide-angle lens (16–24mm equivalent) captures the full scale. A polarising filter helps cut haze. Tripods are not permitted.

At the top

Level 124 is enclosed with floor-to-ceiling glass. Level 125 is the outdoor terrace — there's a guardrail, not glass, so the wind noise and air are part of the experience. Dress for the outdoor terrace in winter (Nov–Feb) — it can be 10–12°C at 450m with the wind. In summer it's still warm but far more humid than at ground level.

The fountain from above

The Dubai Fountain is directly below — and at 6:00pm and 6:30pm it performs from the deck above you. Watching it from the Burj Khalifa rather than from the boardwalk is a completely different perspective — you see the full oval, the spray catching the light, the crowds around it as tiny specks. If your slot overlaps with a fountain show, stay for it.

Armani Hotel shortcut: Guests of the Armani Hotel Dubai (inside the Burj Khalifa) get priority access to At the Top. If you're staying there, use the hotel entrance and skip the mall queue entirely.
