Skydiving over Dubai
Dubai has one of the world's most dramatic skydiving drop zones — exiting an aircraft at 4,000m over the Palm Jumeirah, you freefall for 60 seconds before the canopy opens for a 5-minute flight above one of the most recognisable artificial landscapes on earth. The Palm's shape, the Dubai Marina towers, the Gulf water and the desert haze all visible simultaneously. The view justifies the leap.
Skydive Dubai is the operator — a professional outfit operating since 2009 from two drop zones: the Palm Drop Zone (over Palm Jumeirah — the iconic one) and the Desert Campus (inland, 50 minutes from the city, smaller crowds, cheaper). For first-timers, the Palm Drop Zone is the clear choice. You're paying a premium for the view, and the view is extraordinary.
Skydiving here is a tandem jump — you're attached to a certified instructor throughout, no training or experience required. The jump takes the better part of a full day when you factor in briefing, waiting, flying up, the jump itself, canopy flight and landing. Plan for 4–6 hours at the facility.

§ 03 — What to expect
The day, step by step

Arrival & registration (30–60 min)
Arrive at the drop zone (Palm: Skydive Dubai Marina) at your booked time. Complete paperwork, watch a safety briefing video, sign waivers. Weight and health checks completed here.

Gear up & meet your instructor (20 min)
You're fitted into a jumpsuit, harness, goggles and helmet. You meet your tandem instructor — they will brief you on the body position for exit, freefall and canopy. A calm, briefing, not a lecture.

The wait (30 min – 2 hrs)
Depending on the day and weather, you may wait before your flight slot. Peak season (Nov–Mar) means more jumpers and longer waits. Weather holds (high wind or cloud cover) can delay by hours. Factor this into your day.

Aircraft climb — 4,000m (20 min)
A small turboprop climbs to 4,000 metres (13,000 feet). You'll be able to see the Palm, the Gulf, the Marina and the city laid out below. This is when the reality of what you're about to do sets in for most people.

Exit & freefall (60 seconds)
You're attached to your instructor at the aircraft door. On their count, you exit together. Freefall is 60 seconds — terminal velocity around 190km/h. The noise and wind are total. The Palm beneath you is unmistakable. It is one of the most visceral experiences possible.

Canopy flight (5–7 minutes)
The parachute deploys at around 1,500m. Silence replaces the roar. You drift for 5–7 minutes, the instructor steering across the Palm. The views at this stage — eye level with the fronds, Gulf in every direction — are the most beautiful part of the experience.

Landing & debrief
You land on the designated area on the Palm. Your video footage is compiled (if booked) and ready within the hour. Most people stand around looking mildly stunned for 10–15 minutes before the adrenaline normalises.
Who cannot skydive: Weight limit is 100kg. Minimum age 18. Not permitted if pregnant, or with certain heart, back, or neck conditions. Alcohol or drugs in the system = immediate refusal. The health checklist on the Skydive Dubai booking form covers all restrictions — check this before booking.

Booking & tips
When to book
The Palm Drop Zone is extremely popular November–March. Book at minimum 2 weeks ahead for weekday slots; 3–4 weeks for Friday and Saturday. The facility books out far in advance during December. The Desert Campus has much more availability.
Weather holds
Dubai's skies are usually clear, but cloud cover and high winds do cause holds and cancellations. Build flexibility into your schedule — don't plan a skydive for the morning before a flight. Rescheduling is handled by Skydive Dubai without penalties for weather holds.
What to wear
Comfortable, fitted clothing — nothing loose that will flap in freefall. Closed, laced shoes (no sandals). You change into a jumpsuit on arrival. Leave valuables and jewellery in a locker — they provide them free.
Book direct
Book via skydivedubai.ae directly. Third-party booking agents charge significant markups for the same slots. The official site has a straightforward booking flow with real-time slot availability.
Is it worth it? Yes — unambiguously. The Palm Drop Zone experience, with the video package, is one of the most extraordinary things you can do anywhere. The 2,000–2,800 AED total spend is significant but this is a genuine once-in-a-lifetime experience for most people. Budget travellers who want to skydive should consider the Desert Campus (999 AED) — still a remarkable jump.
