Skydiving in Dubai

Skydiving in Dubai is not one experience at two prices. Skydive Dubai lists tandem products for both the Palm Dropzone and the Desert Campus, but availability is not symmetrical: as of 11 September 2026, the operator’s current contact page says the Desert Campus is temporarily closed for its annual summer break. The choice still matters when both are operating, because it changes the view, the atmosphere and the bill; right now, however, Palm is the practical tandem option unless the Desert Campus has formally reopened by your date. The Palm is the signature jump: you leave the aircraft with Palm Jumeirah, Dubai Marina and the Gulf below you. The Desert Campus trades the postcard coastline for open dunes and a lower tandem price. For a first-time visitor who has saved specifically for “the Dubai skydive”, the Palm is usually the one that justifies the premium. When it is operating, the Desert Campus is the smarter value if the sensation of freefall matters more than the skyline.

As of 11 September 2026, Skydive Dubai lists tandem experiences from AED 2,199. At the Palm, the operator lists AED 2,199 for tandem plus medical insurance without photos or video, and AED 2,749 with its standard video-and-photo package. For the Desert Campus, the operator still publishes AED 1,899 without media and AED 2,199 with standard video and photos, but treat those as package prices for when Desert booking is actually available rather than proof that the dropzone is operating today. Those are live operator prices, not a promise that the same package will cost the same on your travel date, so check the official booking calendar before budgeting.

The aircraft climbs to as high as 13,000ft and the operator describes freefall speeds above 200km/h. The dramatic part is brief; the memory is not. That is why the media decision deserves more thought than it gets. If you are already spending thousands of dirhams on the Palm jump, the standard photo/video package is easier to justify than trying to save the difference and relying on memory. The optional one-minute social edit and selfie-view add-on are extras on top of the standard media package, not substitutes for it.

This is the part of the booking page that matters more than the view. Tandem participants must be 18 to 75 years old on the day of the jump, using the Gregorian calendar. Guests aged 70–75 need a doctor-signed and stamped Declaration of Fitness. Skydive Dubai also uses sex-specific weight and BMI limits: women must be 90kg or less with BMI 27.5 or less; men must be 100kg or less with BMI 30.0 or less. Both conditions apply. You are weighed at check-in wearing your clothes and shoes.

Do not treat those numbers as flexible targets. If you are close to a limit, calculate your BMI before booking and allow for ordinary day-to-day weight variation. The operator’s refund policy makes clear that failing eligibility requirements is not a weather cancellation. Turning up outside the rules can mean losing the jump and the payment.

Medical disclosure matters too. Skydive Dubai requires a doctor-completed Declaration of Fitness for a broad list of current or previous conditions, including heart or lung disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, epilepsy, severe head injury, recurrent blackouts or giddiness, dislocated limbs and other past or present medical conditions. If you have a prosthetic limb, the operator asks you to contact reservations before booking. Pregnancy is strongly advised against. If any wording on the current declaration could apply to you, use the operator’s form and ask them directly rather than relying on a travel article.

There are two easy-to-miss timing rules: no alcohol or drugs for at least 24 hours before the skydive, and Skydive Dubai advises scuba divers to leave at least 24 hours between diving and skydiving. Those requirements can wreck an otherwise well-planned Dubai itinerary, so do not schedule a late brunch, big night out or scuba day immediately before your jump.

Skydive Dubai currently asks tandem customers to allow roughly three to four hours from check-in to completion. Your confirmation time is when you should arrive. It is not a promise that you will be stepping out of an aircraft at that minute. Registration, eligibility checks, briefing, instructor preparation, aircraft sequencing and weather can all move the actual jump later.

The most useful itinerary advice is therefore simple: book the skydive in the first half of your Dubai trip and leave the rest of that day flexible. The operator itself recommends early-trip scheduling for visitors because wind, visibility, precipitation or other operational issues can trigger “standby”, delays or cancellation. If conditions do not improve, affected jumps can be rescheduled; the current sales policy also provides for a refund when Skydive Dubai cancels because of adverse weather or circumstances beyond its control.

Do not book a non-refundable desert dinner, airport transfer or timed attraction immediately after the expected finish. The jump may run perfectly on schedule, but the risk you are managing is not the 60 seconds of freefall; it is the uncertainty around aviation and weather. A relaxed lunch nearby or an unbooked Marina evening is a much better pairing.

When operations go on standby, staff monitor conditions and resume when they judge them suitable. A blue sky at hotel level does not tell you what the wind is doing at altitude. Resist the urge to argue with a hold because the beach looks calm. This is one of those travel experiences where a conservative operator is exactly what you want.

Skydive Dubai asks for athletic or comfortable clothing. Shorts need to cover the thigh so the harness can sit properly, and footwear should be secure lace-up sports shoes without buckles or studs. The operator specifically rules out sandals, boots, heels or platform shoes, swimwear, crop tops, low-cut tops and sleeveless tops. Light clothing can also get dirty, so an all-white holiday outfit is a poor choice.

Prescription glasses and contact lenses are fine; protective goggles are provided. Do not assume you can take your own phone, action camera or selfie stick into freefall. The operator’s media setup exists for a reason, and loose equipment around a parachute system is not a travel-hack opportunity.

Eat normally and hydrate, but avoid turning the jump into a fasting challenge or a giant pre-flight meal. Dubai heat, adrenaline and a long check-in window are a bad combination if you arrive dehydrated. If you are prone to motion sickness, speak to a medical professional about what is appropriate for you rather than experimenting with a new medication on jump morning.

The operator says its tandem calendar is normally released around one to three months ahead. If your preferred date is not visible, that can mean the calendar has not opened or the slots are already filled. During popular travel periods, do not build your entire trip around the assumption that a walk-in will solve it.

Palm Dropzone does operate a daily waiting-list process when space allows. There is also a limited Palm priority option for last-minute customers: the current operator information lists a AED 700 priority fee on top of the regular tandem price, while successful ordinary walk-ins can incur a AED 300 booking fee. These are expensive contingency tools, not a substitute for planning. Availability still depends on the day’s operations and weather.

For ordinary bookings, the current policy allows individuals to reschedule up to 24 hours before the reservation; group deadlines are longer. Read the live sales policy when you pay because penalty and refund conditions matter on an experience this expensive. If your booking came through an agent, refund handling may also route back through that agent.

Our pick: if the budget works, book the Palm tandem with standard video and photos near the start of your stay, keep the afternoon unstructured, and make sure you meet every eligibility rule before the card is charged. If you simply want to experience a tandem skydive and are less concerned about the Palm aerial, the Desert Campus can be the better-value choice after it reopens; confirm current operating status before planning around it.

For nervous first-timers, the most useful reassurance is not pretending the jump is casual. It is an aviation activity with strict eligibility rules, a serious safety briefing and weather limits. That seriousness is a feature. You can be frightened and still follow instructions well. Tell your instructor if you are anxious rather than trying to perform confidence for friends or a camera.

The Palm jump is expensive even by Dubai-attraction standards, so judge it against other once-only experiences rather than against an ordinary sightseeing ticket. If aerial perspective is the reason you travel, the geometry of Palm Jumeirah beneath you is genuinely distinctive. If heights make you miserable and the idea is mostly someone else’s bucket list, there is no virtue in forcing it. A gyrocopter flight, observation deck or helicopter experience may give you the skyline without the freefall.

Spectators should also plan realistically. Waiting areas and access arrangements can change, and the person jumping may be occupied for several hours. Agree on a simple post-jump meeting plan rather than asking a non-jumper to spend half a day orbiting the facility. In summer, that matters even more.
