If you have been saying “I’ll do the Mallathon before summer ends”, this is the deadline. Dubai’s free indoor walking and running initiative reaches the end of its three-month 2026 season on 15 September. Residents and visitors can use the participating mall tracks during the published morning window without paying an entry fee or booking an advance registration, but venue access, parking and any final-day activities can still vary by location.
§ 01 — Final countdown
The 2026 Dubai Mallathon season finishes on Tuesday, 15 September
The second Dubai Mallathon began on 15 June and was expanded into a full three-month summer programme after the success of the inaugural edition. That makes Tuesday, 15 September the scheduled final day of the 2026 season.
For anyone who wants one last indoor walk or run, the latest Dubai Media Office update gives a daily operating window of 6am to 10am. That early-morning format lets participants exercise before normal mall crowds build while staying inside climate-controlled spaces during Dubai’s hottest part of the year.
Do not read “final day” as a promise of a single citywide closing ceremony at every venue. Published information confirms the programme deadline and participating locations, but individual activations, races, retail offers or special events can differ. If you are travelling across Dubai specifically for a particular activity rather than simply walking or running, check the venue or organiser’s latest update first.
§ 02 — Where to go
Eight locations are listed for the final stretch
Dubai Mallathon started the 2026 season with six major shopping centres and later expanded. By the 22 August official update, the daily programme included eight locations:
- Dubai Mall
- Mall of the Emirates
- City Centre Mirdif
- Dubai Festival City Mall
- City Centre Deira
- Dubai Hills Mall
- Gate Avenue at DIFC
- Ibn Battuta Mall
Gate Avenue at DIFC joined from 1 August and Ibn Battuta Mall joined on 17 August, widening the programme beyond the original six-mall line-up. Dubai International Airport also hosted special Friday sessions during August, but those airport events were a separate limited series and should not be confused with the eight mall locations listed for daily participation through 15 September.
§ 03 — Cost & registration
The basic walk or run is free, with no advance registration required
The easiest part of Mallathon is the barrier to entry: there is no ticket price for the regular programme and the published participation format does not require people to pre-register online. Participants can go to a participating location and collect a wristband.
That does not mean every possible competition, promotional giveaway or retail offer is guaranteed on the final day. Earlier in the season, wristbands unlocked offers at selected shops, cafés and restaurants, while weekend competitions included prizes. Those extras are secondary to the core free walking and running programme and can be venue- or date-specific.
If you are bringing children, an older family member or someone with mobility needs, the initiative has explicitly welcomed families, senior citizens and People of Determination. Practical accessibility still depends on the exact mall, entrance, parking area and route you use, so the sensible final check is with the venue itself.
§ 04 — Big turnout
More than 100,000 people had already logged over 220 million steps
Dubai Media Office reported on 22 August that the second edition had surpassed 100,000 participants and recorded more than 220 million steps in its first two months. The turnout covered residents and visitors as well as families, senior citizens, People of Determination, government entities, private companies and community organisations.
Those figures were a progress update rather than a final season total. With the programme continuing until 15 September, the eventual number should be higher, but we are not inventing a final count before organisers publish one.
The scale is notable because the first edition in 2025 ran for only a month, drew more than 40,000 participants and logged more than 120 million steps. It also set a Guinness World Record for the most runners in a mall run event, with 1,392 participants at Dubai Hills Mall. The 2026 season was deliberately lengthened to three months to give more of the community a chance to participate.
§ 05 — Residents & visitors
It works as a local fitness habit and as an easy visitor activity
For residents, Mallathon’s appeal is practical rather than complicated: it creates a predictable indoor place to walk or run during the months when outdoor exercise can be uncomfortable or unsafe in the heat. It also removes the need for a gym membership for a simple morning session.
For visitors, it is an unusual way to experience Dubai’s shopping centres before the main retail day gets busy. Someone staying near Downtown, Barsha, Deira, Mirdif, Dubai Hills, DIFC or Ibn Battuta can choose a nearby venue rather than travelling across the city just for the sake of using a particular track.
If you are a tourist with a packed itinerary, remember that the 6am–10am window overlaps breakfast, tours and checkout times. Pick the venue that fits your day rather than turning a free walk into an expensive cross-city taxi mission.
Choose the venue for convenience, not bragging rights. Downtown residents and hotel guests will naturally find Dubai Mall the easiest option, while Mall of the Emirates suits much of Al Barsha and the Sheikh Zayed Road corridor. City Centre Deira works well for older Dubai neighbourhoods, City Centre Mirdif serves the eastern side of the city, and Dubai Festival City is a practical choice around the Creek-side communities and Festival City area. Dubai Hills Mall is useful for newer inland communities, Gate Avenue at DIFC gives central business-district workers a pre-office option, and Ibn Battuta Mall is the obvious western-side choice for people living or staying around Jebel Ali, Discovery Gardens and the Marina-side end of the city.
The point is not to collect all eight tracks. The best final-day plan is the one with the least friction: pick the nearest practical location, arrive early enough that parking or entry does not eat the whole session, and leave before the normal mall day gets busy. If you are staying in Dubai without a car, compare the transport time to the exercise time before choosing a venue. A free 45-minute walk is less appealing if it requires a long taxi journey in each direction.
§ 06 — Final-day practical plan
Five things to check before you head out
- Confirm the venue: use one of the eight locations in the latest official list.
- Aim early: the published daily window is 6am–10am, so leave time to park, enter and find the track.
- Wear proper footwear: a mall floor may be smooth and air-conditioned, but a longer walk or run still deserves comfortable shoes.
- Bring water: indoor air-conditioning reduces heat exposure but does not eliminate hydration needs.
- Check special activities separately: do not assume a competition, prize, retail deal or organised race is available just because the regular track is.
Public transport may be the simplest option for some venues, particularly where a Metro connection is convenient. For drivers, parking availability and the most practical entrance can change as normal mall operations ramp up later in the morning.
§ 07 — What ends on 15 September
The organised season ends; the habit does not have to
The 15 September date is the end of the scheduled Dubai Mallathon 2026 programme, not a general closure of the malls and not a rule preventing people from walking indoors afterwards. What ends is the organised seasonal initiative with its designated Mallathon tracks, wristband system and programmed activities.
Sheikh Hamdan directed after the 2025 edition that Mallathon become an annual three-month event from 15 June to 15 September. On that basis, the programme is intended to return in future summers, though the exact 2027 venue list and activity programme should be checked once officially announced.
The wider goal is to make movement a normal part of daily life rather than a one-off event. Dubai Mallathon is linked to the Dubai Quality of Life Strategy 2033 and the Dubai Social Agenda 33, with the 2026 edition also aligning with the UAE’s Year of Family.
§ 08 — Caveats
Do not rely on an old venue list or assume every extra is running
Older launch coverage can show only six malls because that was the opening line-up in June. The official 22 August update added Gate Avenue at DIFC and Ibn Battuta Mall to the daily list, bringing it to eight locations for the later stage of the season.
Similarly, airport Mallathon sessions at DXB were held on Fridays during August. They were special events, not a ninth daily mall venue through the September 15 finish.
Finally, the 100,000-participant and 220-million-step figures are not being presented as final totals. They are the latest official milestone figures we verified. We will update this page if organisers publish a final 2026 tally after the programme closes.
§ 09 — Sources & verification
What we checked
We checked Dubai Media Office’s 22 August 2026 Mallathon progress update for the eight-location list, 6am–10am schedule, 100,000-participant milestone and 220 million steps. We also checked Dubai Media Office’s 14 June launch announcement for the 15 June–15 September season dates and the official direction to make the event a recurring three-month summer initiative.
For participation details and a current independent cross-check, we reviewed Gulf News coverage of the 22 August milestone and its 9 September sports update. Those reports confirm free participation, no advance registration for the regular programme and the event’s final 15 September date. Venue-specific access, competitions and offers can still change, so check the chosen mall before making a special trip.
