When to go
November to March: The best beach season. Water temperature 20–24°C, air temperature 22–28°C. Arrive before 11am or after 3pm in January–February when beaches fill with both tourists and residents making the most of the perfect weather.
April and October: Shoulder season. Still very good. Water warms to 26–28°C. Air temperature builds quickly by midday. Fine for a beach morning.
May to September: Water temperature reaches 32–34°C — warm bath territory. Air is 40°C+. Beach clubs remain open but the experience is fundamentally different. Early morning (7–9am) gives you cooler water and beautiful light before the heat becomes unbearable.
What to bring
Sunscreen SPF 50 minimum — the UAE sun is intense even in winter. Water (2 litres per person for a full beach day). A rash vest or UV shirt is worth considering for extended time in the water. Beach umbrellas and sun loungers are available for hire at most public beaches (30–50 AED for the day).
Dress code
Swimwear is appropriate on the beach and at the immediate beachfront. Walking in swimwear to shopping areas, restaurants or along public streets away from the beach is not appropriate and may attract comment. Bring a cover-up for any movement away from the immediate beach area.
