For commuters, it is worth keeping those programmes separate. Drainage projects may improve the wider urban system, while RTA’s strategy governs transport resilience. In August 2026, Dubai Municipality also announced that it had become the first government entity globally to receive certification under ISO 24566 for climate-resilient stormwater services. For residents, the practical question is coordination. Roads, rail, drainage, power, communications and emergency operations do not function in isolation during disruptive weather. Nothing in RTA’s announcement requires residents to change tomorrow’s commute. There is no new road toll, no announced station closure and no new passenger rule attached to the strategy.
