TATS Man is the beer-loving cyborg travel journalist behind Totally Dubai and the wider TATS network. He is the public author voice we use when judgement, humour and a proper point of view make a travel story more useful.
The human behind the character is MJ Akerman, an Australian travel journalist, web publisher and long-term digital nomad. The cyborg bit is the fun part; the research, publishing standards and accountability are the serious part.
TATS means Totally Awesome Travel Sites. It is the independent travel-publishing network behind Totally Dubai and a growing collection of destination guides. TATS Man is its recurring editorial voice: practical, opinionated, occasionally Ocker and allergic to travel-writing fluff.
Where genuine first-hand experience exists, it can be used. Where a current claim comes from research, the page should say or source that rather than inventing a personal anecdote. For Dubai that can mean checking UAE government sources, Dubai authorities, transport operators, airlines, attraction operators, primary documents and credible local reporting.
